How to Setup Modifiers

February 11, 2026 Updated on February 23, 2026

Modifiers are a powerful feature in the SalesPlay POS system that allow businesses to offer extra customization for products. They are commonly used in restaurants, cafés, and retail outlets to provide additional options such as toppings, fillings, or add-ons. With modifiers, you can let customers personalize their orders (e.g., adding extra cheese to a pizza or extra syrup in a coffee).

What are Modifiers?

Modifiers are additional items or options that can be linked to products. They are also known as Add-ons, Toppings, or Fillings.

  • In a pizza shop, modifiers could be cheese, mayonnaise, olives, or extra sauce.
  • In a coffee shop, modifiers could be extra sugar, caramel syrup, or whipped cream.
  • In a burger shop, modifiers could be lettuce, tomato, or double cheese.

Tip: Modifiers must first be set up in the Back Office before they can be used in the POS App.

Creating Modifiers (Back-office Side)

  1. Log in to SalesPlay POS Back Office Web Portal.
  2. Select Products from the main menu.
  3. Go to the Modifiers section.
  4. Click Create Modifier.
  5. Enter the Modifier Group Name (e.g., Cheese, Sauces, Toppings).
  6. Enter the Modifier Name (e.g., Cheddar Cheese, Tomato Sauce).
  7. Add the Cost Price and Selling Price if required.
  8. Click Add New to add more modifiers under the same group.
  9. Once done, click Save.
  10. Click Attach to assign the modifier group to a Product or a Category.
  11. Tick the items you want to apply the modifier to.
  12. Click Save again to finalize.

Example: Create a modifier group called “Cheese” with “Cheddar” and “Mozzarella”. Attach it to the Pizza category. Every pizza order in the POS App will allow customers to choose their preferred cheese.

Using Modifiers in POS App

  1. Open the POS App and go to New Sale.
  2. Select the product (e.g., Pizza).
  3. A popup will appear with available Modifiers.
  4. Choose the modifiers the customer wants (e.g., Extra Cheese, Garlic Sauce).
  5. Increase or decrease modifier quantity if allowed.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Finally, click Charge to complete the sale.

Example: A customer orders a burger with double lettuce and extra mayonnaise. Select Burger → choose modifiers → tap lettuce twice → add mayonnaise → click Add.

Modifier Quantity Increase

The Modifier Quantity Increase feature lets you adjust how much of a modifier is added.

  • A customer wants extra cheese on their pizza. Increase the cheese modifier from 1 to 2.
  • A burger order with double lettuce can be handled by increasing the lettuce modifier.
  1. In the POS App, select the product in the cart.
  2. Tap the modifiers listed (e.g., Cheese, Lettuce).
  3. Use the “+” or “-” buttons to adjust quantity.
  4. Confirm and save before checkout.

Ordering Modifier Groups (Change Display Order)

Rearrange modifier groups for easier billing (e.g., show Sauces before Cheese).

  1. Log in to SalesPlay Back Office.
  2. Go to Products → Modifiers.
  3. Click the 3-dot button next to the modifier group.
  4. Select Change Order.
  5. Use Drag and Drop (burger icon) to move the group.
  6. Click Save.

Example: Cheese options first, Sauces second, Meats third.

Ordering Modifiers within a Group (Change Display Order)

  1. Go to Back Office → Products → Modifiers.
  2. Click Edit next to the modifier group.
  3. Use Drag and Drop (burger icon) to rearrange modifiers.
  4. Click Save.

Example: In the Sauces group: Tomato Sauce first, Mayonnaise second, BBQ Sauce third.

Special Notes

Modifiers for Variant Products: If your product has variants (e.g., Pizza Small, Medium, Large), modifiers can also be applied.

Note: To apply modifiers to variants, edit the modifier group in the Back Office and re-attach it to the variant product.

Example: Attach Cheese Modifiers to Pizza Small, Pizza Medium, and Pizza Large separately if required.
